Hi! Welcome. This comic is about the origin of Kyoshi from Avatar the last airbender. They never delved much into her life, so I'm doing it for them. If you want to get a good idea of what the comic will be like in general, read at least until about page 41. Things start to heat up about halfway to that point.

A new page is posted every other Monday. I'd like to update faster, but I have problems with my hands that prevents me from doing so.

As for the inspirations, a while ago, somewhere when the early episodes of season three of A:TLA were airing, I saw a picture that someone made 'gender bending' Aang, Katara and Sokka (tried finding the picture - was unsuccessful). After going D'AWWWWW at the picture of Aang, I thought "They should make another avatar series, with a girl avatar this time. It could be about Kyoshi!"

...Which of course, resulted in a fan comic. While they did eventually make a series about a female avatar, it's not about Kyoshi, so I'm making a comic about her instead. I've had the idea in my head for awhile now, so of course it turned into some crazy semi epic.

I didn't actually make the thing though until now because I had two major problems blocking me - first, no matter what I tried, I couldn't get clean line work that I was happy with. That problem was solved when I found a program called vector magic that works brilliantly. Second, I realized that I needed to let myself suck a bit. By not ever letting myself complete any pages because the drawings weren't good enough, I've actually been hindering my progress improving on the other aspects of comic making as well, because I didn't even get to them. I wasn't willing to show practically anything, instead trying to get to the point were I actually thought I was good at drawing first, but then I heard my sister talking about how she met an incredible artist who told her how much he, well, to paraphrase it, still sucked. Then I realized that no matter how good I ever get, I'll probably still be frusterated by how much better I think I should be. So some parts of this comic might suck, but I'm trying to improve - and a lot of that is in the process of making this comic.

A couple things I should mention: this is actually only the second comic past a very small number of pages that I've ever made. While I'm not new to coming up with ideas for comics, I am still pretty new to actually making them. I need a place were I can simply experiment, have fun, and learn. That is this comic. Therefore, the style is probably going to be inconsistent. Especially for the first sections of the comic, as I actually drew some of the panels awhile ago and have improved since then.

Also, Kyoshi might seem a little different than you would expect at the beginning of the story. That's on purpose. We know her as a powerful warrior, but I think that's probably not what she started out as, but rather what she became. This is the story of how that happens.

Enjoy! :)

Welp, looks like this story is dead now, what with the Rise of Kyoshi novel.
